Global Expert on Peacekeeping, Peacebuilding and Post-conflict Stabilization, Security and Peace-keeping
Dr. Ugo Trojano brings over 30 years of international and government experience working with national and international policy-makers and leaders, international organizations such as the United Nations, Organization of Security & Cooperation in Europe, European Union, and international coalitions (Iraq). In the last 30 years he served in complex and difficult duty stations in Africa, the Middle East, Kosovo, the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, Austria and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has completed assignments in western Africa, Palestinian territories, Kosovo and Iraq where he has developed and improved his multisector expertise in cooperation on development, political and diplomatic negotiations, post conflict reconstruction, fund raising, peacekeeping and peace building, public information and set-up, and management of large multinational offices.
From September 1999 to April 2001 as UNMIK international mayor (municipal administrator) of Kosovo Polje, Fushe Kosove, ethnic town in Kosovo, he succeeded in establishing political dialogue between Kosovar Albanian and Serbs through joint multiethnic projects and social initiatives.
In 2006 he became the first non-American PRT team leader (director) in Nasiriya, Dhi Qar Province in Iraq. The Italian-American multinational office in Nasiriya was considered a model for cooperation and innovative approach by the National Coordination Team, US Embassy Baghdad.
From 2007 he was assigned by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to establish and manage public information offices in connection with Italian city candidatures for participation in international and world expositions. He supported Milan's successful bid for the 2015 World Exposition, assisting the Government General Commissioner and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of the promotion campaign. He was also Spokesperson of the Italian pavilion at the Zaragoza International Exposition receiving the Spanish formal appreciation for the most successful press and media office within the Expo.
From 2012 to 2015 Dr. Trojano was the Spokesperson and Chief of Public Information of the European Union Civilian Mission EUCAP SAHEL Niger, deployed at the request of local authorities to improve the capacities of Niger's security forces to combat terrorism and organized crime.
According to the Italian media he is considered one of the foremost Italian experts in peacekeeping, peace-building, and international stabilization operations. His articles on peacekeeping and civil military integration in post-conflict operations were published in specialized magazines and major Italian newspapers. He is often invited by universities as a guest speaker in conferences and to lecture for post graduate masters and political science courses. Dr. Trojano has participated in numerous national and international conferences, and is widely sought by the media for comments and interviews. He founded the Press Club in Niamey, Niger.
Dr Trojano is a reserve officer, holds a PhD in political science from Rome University, and is recipient of the Senegalese presidential state award.
