Hamza Hasan Shareef

Hamza Hasan Shareef is an International Affairs Advisor to the Government of Iraq’s National Security Council where he has served in various advisorial capacities. He is the Chairman of the Committee on Provinces that assess provinciallevel stability. Hamza serves on other government bodies including as Steering Committee Member of the Ministry of Water Resources’ Strategy for Water & Land Resources of Iraq, Member of the High National Water Committee on Water that seeks regional solutions to water resource scarcity, Member of the High Committee for Iraq-NATO Partnership with Iraq, and Member of the High Committee for Mine Action in Iraq.

From 2005 to 2008 he served as the Co-Chair of the Working Group for Provincial Iraqi Control and from 2007 until 2011 was Chairman of the Committee to Study Water Problems in Iraq with Neighboring Countries. Prior to Iraq’s liberation in 2003, Mr. Hamza worked in the private business sector but began his career in education. He has participated in numerous international conferences in the United States, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy and elsewhere where he has delivered papers such as on The Political Role of the Military in Iraq and The Relationship Between Al-Qaida in Iraq and Former Regime Elements.

Mr. Hamza received his Bachelors of Science degree from the College of Sciences at the University of Baghdad in 1971.
